Stamford Catholic Loses Nail-biter

Hank Andrzejczak scored on a 2-yard run and Joe "The Toe" Melita added the decisive PAT as Notre Dame of Fairfield (9-1) edged Stamford Catholic (8-2) 7-6 to virtually assure coach Lou Saccone's Lancers of the Waskowitz Trophy, emblematic of the state football championship. Andrzejczak earned the state scoring title with 142 points. The Crusaders scored on a sparkling 51-yard run by Pete Zezima.
