Just Football - Crusader Football Camp

CrusaderNation.net Staff

The Crusaders recently attended the first overnight football camp in team history. Here is some info from the camp so our fans can get an idea of what the young men experienced up at Camp Brookwood.

The Marriott Hotel chain has nothing on Camp Brookwood! There was plenty of electricity, hot water, and food. The players felt the food tasted better as the week went along. There were no TV, no computers, no air conditioning -- just the basics. Players and coaches were in football heaven, or hell, depending on an individual's viewpoint. Some considered it a “prison," but most considered it “football paradise." Truly an opportunity for a football-holic to enjoy.

Team-bonding increased dramatically. One of our captains was quoted as saying, “Team chemistry was at level five before camp, and it was a 10 by the time we arrived back home. The coaches bonded as well. All seven coaches stayed in the same room, with Coach Badowski taking the floor. “After 96 hours in a row you’ll either develop chemistry, or kill each other." This adage was truly tested, and the guys came away stronger for it.

The Crusader persona was evident from day one. The scrimmage with Foran was feisty, to say the least. Post scrimmage, our boys enjoyed listening to a lecture from the Camp Director. Four days of football, football, football. The kids scrimmaged a number of times. Their focus was 100 percent football. The team really came together. Injuries were minor. Overall, it was a total success. The 2008 Crusader team seems to have a blue-collar “bring your lunch box to work" kind of personality.
