O'Leary Named Player of the Week

from The FCIAC Football Blog
By Tim Parry

There were a lot of very worthy candidates this week for the FCIAC Football Blog and BlueStreak Sports Training Player of the Week Award. Usually, an MVP would be awarded to a player the team that won the game. This week it did not.

Trinity Catholic QB-CB John O'Leary is the Week 2 recipient after going above and beyond the call of duty in his team's one-point loss to city rival Westhill on Friday.

He completed 9-of-17 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown, ran the ball 11 times for 63 yards and a score, had two fourth-quarter interceptions, one that he returned for a score. Oh yeah — he also suffered a possible broken left hand in the first quarter, and a grade 1 separated shoulder later in the game.

To quote Trinity Catholic assistant coach Stephen Bedosky, who nominated O'Leary on head coach Bryan Fox's behalf, "Lesser men would have writhed on the ground in pain until they were taken off the field for the injuries John suffered from this game. John fought the heat, his extremities, and the Vikings in what one must consider one of the greatest high school football games in recent memory."
