Scrimmage #1

With 20 days left in until the arrival of St. Joseph’s, the boys from Trinity traveled to Danbury to scrimmage Immaculate. In a controlled scrimmage, the Crusaders tuned up and looked ready for the upcoming season. With probable starter Anes Kummal sidelined, Chris Hawthorn took the reigns of the offense and was 4-7 with an interception. Gene DeVito, Matt Tacone, and John O’Leary were all recipients.

The offensive line and running game seemed a hair away from being on all cylinders, but looked aggressive and crisp. Matt Tacone and Kyle Foti both looked impressive carrying the ball wide while Eric Stevens provided the BOOM up the middle, sometimes led by newly converted backfield member Teggy Steele.

On the other side of the ball, the Crusaders played shut down defense against the run, Vin Cortez, Mario Piralozzi and Anthony Kurche leading the charge. The passing game was another story. The secondary looked somewhat vulnerable. With starting defensive back Ryan Durkin on the bench for preventative measures, we should expect that to improve upon his return.

The Crusaders travel to Greenwich Tuesday to take part in a three team scrimmage involving defending FCIAC champion Greenwich, and New York power house Polly Prep.

19 Days and Counting …. Go Crusaders!!
